Difference between Traditional and Self Publishing

In our previous post, we have discussed the benefits of self publishing your book. Now, let’s have a discussion about the differences between traditional publishing and self publishing.

For many authors who have writing for the first time, it can be a very tough and confusing decision whether they self publish their book or they should seek out a traditional publishing house to publish their book. It is a very important decision that a novice author has to make because the decision could have a huge impact on the success or failure of the book. Hence, here in this article, we are discussing the difference of the self publishing and traditional book publishing, so that you can easily decide which type of publishing method would serve your purposes at the best.

Here are the prime differences between the traditional and self publishing-

1.       If you seek for the traditional publishing, you need to understand one thing for sure; the entire control of the publishing process would be on your publisher’s hand. Your publisher would be determining about the cover, printing, editing, pricing and every others aspect of the publishing process. Whereas, in self publishing, the entire control of the publishing process will be on your hand. From editing to pricing or distribution to marketing every aspect of the publishing will be controlled by you.

2.       In the case of traditional publishing, the authors will get a certain percentage from the bookselling profit as their royalty. Whereas, in the case of traditional publishing, the authors can keep the entire amount of the bookselling profit after deducting a certain percentage of the amount as the fee of the publishers.

3.       Thirdly, you can publish your book in both online and printed version in self publishing method. Whereas, in the case of traditional publishing, you can’t publish your book online. You need to publish your book only in printed version if you choose to publish your book with a traditional publishing house.

These are the three main differences between self publishing and traditional publishing. If you want to gather more knowledge about the self publishing process, you can browse through the official website of ShieldCrest Publishing for details.
